Despite not being a household name, DJ and producer Lawrence Philpot - A.K.A. Larry Levan - is one of the most important people to have ever been a part of the disco scene.

As the resident DJ at New York's influential Paradise Garage, Levan inspired countless artists, DJs, label A&R men, club owners and ordinary people by playing records that have gone on to form the basis for all modern dance music.

In his 10 years as resident at 'The Garage', he produced, mixed and remixed a host of classic tracks - many of which have informed large parts of our music policy at Love Come Down.

Here are just a few of my favourites, including Larry's original remix of the Loose Joints track I posted yesterday:

Loose Joints 'Is It All Over My Face' (Larry Levan Remix)

Taana Gardner 'Heartbeat' (Club Version)

Gwen Guthrie 'Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent' (12" Club Mix)

Inner Life 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' (The Garage Version)

David Joseph 'You Can't Hide (Your Love From Me)'

The Joubert Singers 'Stand On The Word' (Larry Levan Mix)
